Africans and “Black” Americans could actually be seen as two separate, distinct races.

When Africans were first brought over here to these shores in the early 1600s, there was plenty of intermixing with the European (Irish, English, etc) and Native Americans. Throughout the hundreds of years, one could actually say that the Africans were brought over here had their race “Americanized” they no longer kept their pure African features.

this is why today you can tell the difference between someone who is from Africa and a “Black” person who lives in America. there is a DIFFERENCE. the two races (yes i said races) have different facial features, structures, and COLOR.

those who come from Africa (not including South Africa) have little to NO European inter-mixing what so ever.

so yes, i am offended when someone collectively refers to all Black Americans as Africans. we are NOT Africans. we have different facial features, structure, and customs/culture.

SO before any makes an attempt to throw my major (Anthropology) into this, i’m going to let you know that i KNOW what i’m talking about.

They mixed races in Africa too. For example Cote D’Ivoire is called that because the French colonized it. Colonization that pre-dates the Middle Passage. I love your brown skin. I understand you wanting to include other races in your ethnicity b/c it is a part of American history that “black people” have other races in their family tree. Some is on purpose and some of that race mixing was forced. Even so it is part of the African American experience. No tumblr war but you bout as chocolate as me.

What Happens in Vegas...

makes it to my blog b/c there is nothing to not tell. It was supposed to be this big ordeal for my man’s girl’s bday and a bunch of ppl were suppose to show. And I’m the only one that did. So it was a couple and me…. … … Yeah. But overall I have a few thoughts on LV (i.e. the strip, hotels, casinos, tourist things etc).

Las Vegas is a lot of hype. I mean I probably could’ve made it more fun but I’m getting too old for stupidity… (not really lol)
It is a big facade. Vegas makes you believe you’re somewhere you’re not. You don’t realize that you’re in the middle. of the. desert. Like Las Vegas Paris and New York and The Venetian all are spectacles but I personally hold Venice and Paris close to my heart as I long to visit them and I feel like Vegas took a little away from that. Furthermore the fakeness of the strip only seemed to carry over to most of the people I interacted with that worked on the strip or was from LV. I’m sure ppl in LV aren’t all fake, which is why I limited my critique to the tourist things, but being on the strip the locals have to at least appear fake to make a decent $.
The best thing about LV, are the realest things about LV, and those are the Sierra Nevada Mountains that surround the city. Being from the east coast, western geography captivates me. The best view on the strip is standing on one of their bridges that link casinos and looking at the mountains past the cheaper hotels, motels, and casinos. (sappy I know)
The food there is greaat.
Shopping or attempting to shop there makes you want to be a baller. I saw some things in Ballys and Ferragamo that would look so good on me. BC im me.
If young immigrant men and women can try and sell me hookers as I walk down the strip to do something wholesome, like buy ice cream, why can’t I roll a L, smoke, and think about making such a purchase? All jokes aside, as far as the “morality barometer” goes I hold humans as being most important. So I think it is much more egregious to sell a woman’s body and/or sexual services, of which she is not even getting all 100% of the money, than it is to smoke Marijuana outside, inside, in your room etc. If selling a human for their sexual services is legal, then you sure as hell should be able to smoke weed. If not, then make both illegal.
On a lighter note, I watched Tyra’s show about the Italian Black Vogue Issue and she had most of the models in the mag and former prominent black models on the show. It made me smile. I learned a lot. And I didn’t get overwhelmed with Tyra.

And probably the best part of my trip was the ride home. I was sitting next to this young girl between 12-14, and before the plane can take off from LV she has her sketch book out drawing. AND SHE WAS SO GOOD. She had a passion and it really really really made me smile. I wrote her a note on a torn piece of paper saying she was talented and should keep drawing. She wrote me a note back saying thanks and to check out her art blog. And I smiled even harder when I learned she had ablog. This was truly the highlight of my trip.

I’ll do Vegas again and it won’t be during Xmas time so I can be a little more irresponsible with my money.

Many people who call themselves vegans and animal rights activists, have little or no knowledge of social science; and, often, what they do know about the connections between society and nonhuman nature is loaded with conventional means. For example, it is not uncommon to hear vegans argue that it is the consumption of livestock which causes world hunger. After all, more than 80% of the US’s grain harvest is fed to cattle, and that would be more than enough to feed the hungry of the world. It seems logical then, that the end of human consumption of animals in the US would bring about the feeding of hungry people elsewhere.

But it is entirely false. If Americans stopped eating meat next year, it is unlikely that a single hungry person would be fed newly-freed grains grown on US soil. This is because the problem of world hunger, like that of overpopulation, is not at all what it seems. These problems have their root not in the availability of resources, but in the allocation of resources. Elites require scarcity—a tightly restricted supply of resources—for two major reasons:

First of all, the market value of goods drops decisively as supply increases. If grains now fed to livestock were to become suddenly available, the change would drop the price of grains through the floor, undermining the profit margin. Vegetarians tend to think that vegetable and grain farmers are kind while those involved in animal husbandry are vile. The fact is, vegetables are a commodity, and those with financial interests in the vegetable industry do not want to make their product available if it means growing more to make even less profit.

Second, it is the case that the national and global distribution of food is a political tool. Governments and international economic organizations carefully manipulate food and water supplies to control entire populations. At times, food can be withheld from hungry people as a means of keeping them weak or docile. At other times, its provision is part of a strategy intended to appease restless populations on the verge of revolt.

Knowing all this, it becomes reasonable to assume that the US government, so tightly controlled by private interests, would subsidize the non-production of grains, in order to “save the industry from collapse.” Farmers would likely be paid not to grow grains, or even to destroy their crops.

It is not enough to boycott the meat industry and hope that resources will be re-allocated to feed the hungry. We must establish a system which actually intends to meet human needs; which implies social revolution. (via jaeboogie)
